The Vertebral Column is your Tree of Life
"
STRUCTURE
-33 individual bones stacked in an S-shape.
-Forms a hollow bone tube.
FUNCTION
-Protects the spinal cord.
-Moves like a flexible pillar.
-Provides us our distinct and upright posture.
-Keeps our hands free to create.

We should wear our heads like a crown on top of the vertebral column.  Our skull weighs 11 pounds and our brain 3 pounds.

"Standing strong within the biographical stream of life."

If we stand in a bad posture, then our center of gravity is not above the vertebrae, but above the stomach and intestines.  Doing this strains the back and abdomen muscles, our breathing is hampered and the soft digestive organs suffer.
A "slipped" disc cannot provide the cushion between its two vertebrae, and so the pressure is transferred to other vertebrae discs, and often exerts pressure on the nerves of the vertebral column.  This can cause intense pain, numbness in certain body parts and paralysis.

Nature moves in one direction, from life to death.

Physical degeneration can be seen throughout the body, from having less flexibility to wrinkles on the skin.

Your rate of degeneration is determined by many factors, from your genetics through to the sum total of all your life experiences.
Your lifestyle choices are the most important factor you can control moving forward.

Chiropractic will help you at any point in your journey.

Make chiropractic a regular part of your life and live with greater ease.
Manipulation of the spine has been practiced throughout history.
There are countless examples of "bone-setting" found within various cultures.
"The principles which compose the science of chiropractic are as old as the vertebrata."
-DD Palmer, p.14, The Chiropractor 1914
Bones are smooth and aligned.
Normal curvature and equal spacing between bones.
Excess stress (physical, chemical, emotional) creates abnormal physical tension.
The body becomes misaligned, imbalanced and arrhythmic in its movement.
Phase 1 & 2: arthritis
arthr = Greek word for joint
-itis = Greek word for inflammation

Loss of normal spinal curve.
Decreased joint space.

Uneven pressure on the disc's gel-like structure produces swollen, herniated, slipped discs.

Acute pain/strain with activity.
Phase 3: = osteoarthritis
              = degeneration, disc disease
              = arthritis + Time + Gravity
"Getting Old, Rusty, Ageing"

osteo = Greek word for bone
Soft tissue structures are worn away.

The body reacts with excessive bone growth (deformation, calcium deposits, bone spurs [osteophytes] and sclerosis in order to protect the body.  Results in loss of motion at the joint and the inability to turn, bend and twist.

Constant pain and discomfort are common.

Acute pain/strain with activity.
"A violin or piano that is out of tone makes sour, discordant music - symbolic of disease or illness.
Just as a skilled musician can bring the instrument back into attunement, we experience healing whn our vibrations - right down to the atomic level - are adjusted in a correct manner.  In essence, all healing is the changing of vibrations from within.
